ONI: Thunder God’s Tale is the story of Onari, a courageous girl living in the world of quirky Japanese folklore gods. She must follow in her mysterious father’s footsteps and find her true power. Does she have what it takes to fight to protect her peaceful village from the encroaching threat of the gods' mysterious enemies, the "Oni"?

The four episode limited series explores Onari’s struggle to reconcile who she is with who she wants to be. It is an entertaining yet deep tale about the fear of the unknown and finding your true self.

This story is a multicultural, multigenerational story that required a broad range of experience to bring to fruition. Tonko House partnered with many Japanese studios to develop a unique stop motion-inspired look and execute it in beautifully rendered CG. The initial look was developed with Dwarf Studios, and the CG production was a product of collaboration with Megalis VFX, Marza Animation Planet and Anima Inc.

ONI: Thunder God’s Tale premiered on Netflix in 2022 and is available now.
